A Non-Zero Sum Game for the Future
As someone intrigued by all things crypto and blockchain, I tend to read a lot about the varied uses of this type of technology. Inevitably, many of the things I read speculate on future uses of blockchain that spring from the minds of visionaries and dreamers alike. That being said, I offer the following speculative use of this technology. I leave it to you to judge me as a dreamer or visionary.
One of the articles I came across mentioned a synthetic token that was used to track the amount of poop spotted in the San Francisco area. Token value increased as poop sightings increased and fell as they decreased. Such types of tokens generally require an oracle that serves as the source of the metric used to determine the token’s value. In the case of Poop Exchange, this would simply be an entity where poop sightings could be reported, validated and recorded.
At first I scoffed at this trivial and seemingly banal use of synthetic tokens. The article then stated something that fired my imagination. It stated, “This poop token market could align incentives for local San Francisco government. If the city issues poop tokens, they are incentivized to clean up the streets in order to profit.”
