Changing the Political Landscape

Today in America we find a growing dissatisfaction with our choices in who will represent us in the legislative and executive branches of government. The reason is simple: the two parties in power have both become corrupt and their members are pawns of their corporate puppet masters.

As this dissatisfaction grows it is being replaced by anger, anger born from disempowerment and futility.

We go to the polls and are presented with the Democratic and Republican candidates who have been chosen for us; both under the influence of corporate power structures. Each side peddling fear of the other and sowing divisiveness in our society.

These two parties have long lost the ability to govern in the best interests of the people and serve only the corporations who have purchased, and continue to purchase, their chosen candidates. Is it any wonder we all feel disenfranchised and powerless in the face of entrenched corruption.

I say we are victims of our own complacency.

I’m sure you’ve heard this before. It is we, the people of this country, who have the power to change our government. This is true, in so much that we have votes. But if the choices available to us are limited to conservative corruption or liberal corruption then do we really have a choice at all?

But what if we could replace these two monolithic and corrupt parties with ones who are free from corporate greed, ones who are of the people, for the people and by the people?

This task has always seemed beyond the normal citizen. It is not, however, out of our reach. This task lies right before us, we only need open our eyes and see the tools that lay at our feet.

What if political candidates existed outside the influence of the corporate powers? What if political parties existed who, in their foundational tenets, refused to view corporations as persons, refused to accept any donations from corporate entities, refused to accept any donations from groups of any kind? The individual voter, and her donations, would bring true empowerment back to us.

I have in mind two existing parties who I will implore to amend their existing by-laws to include these tenets. Each of these parties would replace one of the existing corrupt parties. For the more conservative minded person the Libertarian Party would become the party of choice. For more liberal individuals the Egalitarian Party would fill the role.

These two parties currently exist (although the Egalitarian Party has yet to become an official party) and have enough of an infrastructure to scale quickly. This ability to scale is essential as they must field a choice on every ballot, for every position. These new candidates, because of the party by-laws, would have no ties to corporate power structures.

With these new parties and their amended by-laws the people could entirely replace the government within a few election cycles. Gone would be every Democrat and Republican and their corrupt loyalties, replaced by Egalitarians and Libertarians pledged solely to their constituents.

The two monolithic and corrupt parties would not go quietly, however. They, and their corporate masters, would employ all their power, most notably the media, to dissuade us from kicking them out. It is here that our strength will be tested. We must never vote for them again.

Granted, the real work of making positive changes for all Americans would still lie ahead, but our ability to make these changes outside of oligarchical control would enable us to make our dreams become reality.

I ask you now to contact either of these parties and implore them to amend their by-laws as stated previously. Once amended it is our responsibility to make our political donations to them so they can grow and get those candidates placed on ballots. Imagine our great country freed from the corruption of the Democrats and Republicans, replaced by those who owe loyalty only to the people.

Just as we’ve separated church and state we must separate corporations and state. Until we gain that separation we will remain slaves to our corporate masters.

If you like what you have read here, please do not clap. Instead, share this with everyone you can, that is the best you can do for your country and your neighbors.
