Or The Beginners Guide to Despotism

In this guide I will lay down the basic principles on how to gain, and maintain control over a society you wish to rule. There are a few elemental tenets that can be used to great effectiveness when attempting your societal control. Let’s first identify them and then I will describe how they are used in concert to gain control over a populace.

Media.

In regard to our purposes, media represents any and all forms of mass communication. These include written, auditory and visual forms. As with most of these tenets the objective is control, for once controlled you have effectively usurped truth.

Fear.

Fear is a special tenet of despotism because it has an evolutionary path in its usage. Initially fear is sown between groups living within your intended sphere of control, but as time goes by and more control is gained it morphs into fear of the state and its apparatus.

Power.

Power can be tricky. It is a necessary component in gaining control but must be used judiciously. An overt power play will galvanize the populace against you before you can turn the people into the submissive subjects that you require. As with fear, there are multiple types of power that can be used. Physical power, socio-economic power and personal power which can best be described as a cult of personality. Of these, socio-economic power is the most insidious and useful.

Freedom.

I include freedom here as an anti-tenet. The more personal freedoms that exist in a society the more difficult control becomes. Freedom, therefore, must be restricted and to be most effective must be freely given away by the populace.

Now that we have identified our tenets and anti-tenets we can begin implementing them to become Supreme Leader.

Initially we utilize the media to promote ones self and cultivate the cult of personality required to gain access to the people and give them awareness of your ideas. To be most effective you must understand the people you want to control. This is best accomplished by finding out the source of their dissatisfaction and anger. As with any non-homogenized society there will be many reasons. Your goal is to find some basic common denominators in these sources.

These common denominators will not be universal though and this is a good thing. You must determine which group has a large enough base and whose anger is virulent enough for you to accomplish your goals. Once you have found your base you can identify another group who embodies the source of their anger.

Utilizing media you can begin pandering to your target base. This includes publicly identifying their anger and justifying those feelings. Care must be taken to not get emotionally attached to your base as this will eventually soften your resolve and lead to failure. Publicly you must live the lie while privately keeping a ruthless focus on turning people against each other.

Building your cult of personality may take years, but it is the necessary foundation of all that is to follow.

Once you have developed your social capital you will find your next targets coming to you. These targets include the power brokers in corporate entities that will, when properly manipulated, increase the span of your cult of personality from the “proletariat” to the “bourgeois” because where the power brokers go, so go the “bourgeois”. These power brokers will attempt to use your social capital for their own gain. This is your trap as you can now privately show your duplicity to this group and recruit them into your sphere. They must believe they are using you though, at no point can they be aware of your true intentions. Once the “bourgeois” have been assimilated you can switch your power play into the socio-economic realm.

Now you have a large section of the “proletariat” following you, and a large section of the “bourgeois” following the power brokers you are cultivating. It is time to introduce fear into the equation. This is a critical time as you must sow conflict between groups. Conflict grows out of fear and anger; the virulent extremists on each side become fertile ground for fear mongering.

These extremists become your agent provocateurs in generating fear amongst the groups. Violence begets violence and, in time, a complete polarization of society emerges. Once this polarization drives the groups to hysterics you can ride in as a white knight, promising each side change and justice. The large group of “proletariat” produces a grass-roots and populist tidal wave that you can ride into the halls of the state.

Once in the halls of state you can manipulate the corrupt officials with monetary rewards for their support using your contacts within the corporate power brokers. Blinded by promises of socio-economic power the corrupt officials as well as the power brokers bend to your will. If any of them resist you unleash a media campaign denouncing them and thus exercise your control over them.

Reaching the end game, you fulfill your promises to the polarized people by starting to restrict actions on violence. This is done by increasing surveillance and reducing freedom. Your followers will now accept these reductions in freedom in exchange for increased “safety”. Finally you move from the socio-economic power to physical power in ruthless “policing” of the perpetrators of violence.

You can now begin consolidating your power by homogenizing society. Eliminating the polarization that you have created by use of physical power and replacing it with a form of nationalism with you as Supreme Leader.
