I don’t know, there’s a lot to unpack here Tessa.

First, life itself is a competition; competition for food, competition for procreation. Without competition evolution would not exist.

I do understand unhealthy and toxic competition. This is a byproduct of capitalism. If this is what you are referencing, my response is to focus on healthy competition. This is an engagement between peers in an effort to hone skills and learn. It can be as enjoyable as a game of chess between friends.

I guess I’m trying to say you don’t have to “destroy" your opponent in a toxic way, you can measure yourself and your abilities in a friendly way.

In addition, a monetary prize may be just the impetus a new writer needs to stretch their wings ☺️
