Remake the World

What if I told you reality wasn’t a singular place? What if I told you happiness was a choice? Would your cynicism kick in to high gear? Would your disdain prevent you from hearing what I have to say? In the morning, or evening, do you turn on your favorite news channel and listen to the “truth” about the daily whirlwind of life? Have you chosen a side? Have you formed an opinion? Have you created your own reality?

I am an observer and a writer, and as such my work reflects what I see and hear, or this is what I tell myself. In reality my work projects my beliefs rather than reflects life. The input from my senses must first be collected, categorized and collated before becoming integrated into my character. This process is not static. Our perceptions are defined by our previous experiences and, as we add experience and information, the process of integrating them is also affected. The implications of this realization are revelatory.

The great Bill Watterson, creator of Calvin and Hobbes, imparts a wonderful insight to us through his protagonist Calvin, who once said, “It’s not denial, I’m just selective in the reality I accept.” So, my question to you is…what reality are you choosing?

We live in a wonderful time. The amount of information available to us, at our fingertips, is astounding. This explosion of information carries with it no small amount of danger…
